Summer Short Course: Synthetic Biology
Come and dig into the science behind synthetic biology during our three-week Summer Short Course at HudsonAlpha! Synthetic biology is one of the newest fields in the world of science. It is best described as the intersection of engineering and biology with a promising future focused on solving some of the world’s biggest challenges in health, energy and agriculture.
Try your hand at some of the techniques that support synthetic biology:
- DNA extraction
- Restriction enzyme digest and analysis
- Bacterial transformation
- PCR amplification
- System design
The Short Course will highlight key design challenges in synthetic biology and provide interaction with research labs and biotechnology companies working in the field.
Course Dates: Monday through Friday, June 10-28, 2019, 8 am to noon
Eligibility: Students must be rising 10th, 11th or 12th graders or 2019 graduating seniors in order to participate. Previous Summer Short Course graduates (from the 2017 and 2018 Next Generation Genetics course) are welcome to register for this new Synthetic Biology topic.
Cost: $600 (Non-refundable deposit of $100 due upon registration)
