L.A.B.S. returns to HudsonAlpha

Applications open in December

The afterschool program Launching Aspiring Biotechnology Students – or L.A.B.S. – is coming back to HudsonAlpha next fall. The program is designed to equip high school students with the basic skills and knowledge to give participants the confidence to take on future laboratory opportunities.

“In L.A.B.S., I learned lab skills that are currently helping me in college,” says a former student of  the L.A.B.S. program. “I’m a biology major, and I’m currently taking a genetics course. A part of my genetics lab section involved a gel electrophoresis procedure, which I learned from the L.A.B.S. program. Overall, the program improved my independence in the lab.”

The revamped L.A.B.S. is a two-year commitment, and participants will be selected via an application process. Students who are selected this year will engage, grow and learn together over four semesters, concluding the program in Spring 2019. Students will meet in the educational labs at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 6 pm for six weeks each semester.

Applications for L.A.B.S. open in December and close in February. Visit the L.A.B.S. website for more information and to find out how to apply.

L.A.B.S. is made possible through support from Wells Fargo.
