In memory of Rebekka Sprouse Grubbs, Ph.D.

The HudsonAlpha family is mourning the loss of a former colleague and scientific peer. Rebekka Sprouse Grubbs died on Feb. 12 after a battle with a rare form of cancer. She was 32.

Rebekka joined the Myers lab as the institute’s first post-doctoral fellow in 2008. Following her work at HudsonAlpha and later at Cornell University, Rebekka pursued a teaching career and obtained a faculty position at Gorgonza University.

“Rebekka was such a terrific person, as well as a creative and inquisitive scientist,” said Kevin Bowling, Ph.D., a senior scientist in the Myers lab. “Whenever we, as researchers, lose someone to any kind of cancer or other disease, our research becomes more and more personal. It’s why we do what we do.”
