Huntsville, Ala. – The HudsonAlpha Clinical Services Lab (CSL) announced today it has received re-certification from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), ensuring the lab has continued to meet and exceed industry standards for clinical laboratory testing.

CAP accredits laboratories performing testing on specimens from human beings or animals, using methodologies and clinical application within the expertise of the program. Laboratories must be appropriately licensed to perform testing when required by law.
“The CSL is committed to providing genomic data and analysis to physicians, healthcare institutions and patients,” said Elaine Lyon, PhD, FACMG, director of the CSL. “CAP accreditation allows us to continue our mission to improve health through diagnostic and preventive care.”
The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program. During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
“This is an important achievement for clinical laboratories and HudsonAlpha is proud to be home to one of the 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities in the world,” said Rick Myers, PhD, HudsonAlpha president and science director. 
The CSL was established in 2014 to advance the application of genomic technologies in clinical research and diagnostics. The lab is one of only two dozen clinical laboratories providing whole genome sequencing and analysis, and is developing a number of new genetic and genomic clinical tests.
