HudsonAlpha, associate companies attend BIO International Convention

HudsonAlpha and associate companies Novocol Healthcare and Serina Therapeutics joined biotech companies from around the globe at the 2018 BIO International Convention in Boston June 4-7.

BIO International is the biotech industry’s largest global partnering meeting, with more than 16,000 industry leaders from 70 countries in attendance. The state affiliate of BIO International, BioAlabama, represents Alabama’s bio-related industries, research scientists, clinicians and business professionals who are working together to foster, develop and support the life sciences.

Carter Wells, HudsonAlpha’s vice president for economic development, said the conference offers crucial support for firms in the field.

“The exposure they get with other biotech companies, along with investors, and customers is invaluable, ” he said.

HudsonAlpha, Novocol and Serina are three of the many Alabama biotech institutions and companies attending the convention:

  • Innovative Med Concepts (Tuscaloosa)
  • Avanti Polar Lipids (Alabaster)
  • Eurofins Biopharma Services (Huntsville)
  • Discovery BioMed (Birmingham)
  • Bridge Therapeutics (Birmingham)
  • Proximity Biosciences (Auburn)
  • Novocol Healthcare (Huntsville)
  • Serina Therapeutics (Huntsville)
  • Southern Research (Birmingham)

Alabama continues to grow its reputation as the “Biotech Hub of the Southeast,” with the biosciences industry generating $7.3 billion in economic impact for the state, according to a recent study conducting by the University of Alabama.

“We have exceptional strengths in biosciences, including world-class research organizations and a roster of cutting-edge companies, so it’s a natural growth area for the state,” said Greg Canfield, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce.
