Genetic Resources to Empower Alabama Teachers — GREAT — workshops update high school teachers’ genetics knowledge by highlighting recent scientific findings. Teachers will be introduced to applications based on these discoveries through two days of small group concurrent sessions and talks by HudsonAlpha educators.
This round of GREAT, our fifth round, focuses on current and emerging applications of genetic technologies poised to impact our daily lives. From genomically informed health care decisions, to new uses of DNA technology in criminal investigation, to understanding the nuances of familial inheritance patterns, this round has something for everyone! Join us for a rich learning experience packed with new content, and take home three new pilot kits to field test in your classroom.
GREAT workshops are made possible through support from the State of Alabama. They are available for teachers at Alabama accredited, public high schools. Eligible educators who complete the two-day workshop will receive substitute teacher cost reimbursement of up to $70 per day and return to the classroom with student-tested lesson plans, hands-on materials and classroom supplies.
