HudsonAlpha Foundation receives $25K donation from Dynetics, Inc.

Donation will fund educational equipment for next gen STEM leadersDynetics Check

A $25,000 gift from Dynetics, Inc is helping support programs to education high school students in the field of genomics. On July 1, Dave King, Dynetics CEO, presented a check for $25,000 to the HudsonAlpha Foundation to fund new equipment for HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology’s educational programs.

To mark the company’s 45th anniversary, Dynetics presented a total of $55,000 in donations to three local Huntsville nonprofit organizations during their Incorporation Day Celebration and as part of their Dynetics Does initiative, a community outreach initiative to build partnerships with organizations around the country through volunteerism, charitable donations, and sponsorships.

“We are investing and reinvesting in our communities, helping create a better place to live, not only for our employees and their families, but everyone around us. I believe we have a moral imperative to do that,” said Dynetics CEO Dave King.

Specifically, this new gift to the HudsonAlpha Foundation will allow for the purchase of equipment needed for high school life science outreach for HudsonAlpha Educational Outreach Advanced Placement Program for Learning Enhancement (APPLE). Through APPLE, HudsonAlpha sends volunteer scientists and collegiate students with equipment, materials and resources to run programming and allow students to learn more about STEM related careers in AP science classrooms. The gift will also enable the purchase of a transilluminator system to allow students to visualize DNA.

During the 2017-2018 academic year, more than 1.2 million individuals were impacted through HudsonAlpha Educational Outreach with digital applications, camps, field trips, school visits, teacher training programs, workforce development, life-long learning programs and more. Over the past decade, HudsonAlpha has reached nearly 5.5 million people with these programs.
