• Can I attend this workshop if I have already attended a GREAT Workshop in another location this year?

    Teachers who attended a previous GREAT Workshop: Standards are not eligible to attend. GREAT: Standard workshop locations include(d):

  • I am a middle school teacher. Can I attend?

    Unfortunately, we are unable to offer content for middle school teachers at this workshop. We hope to have middle school specific professional development opportunities coming soon, so check back with us!

  • I have to leave early. Can I still participate in the GREAT Workshop?

    Yes, you may attend sessions. However, only those teachers that complete the full schedule of both days’ sessions will be eligible to receive the bag of classroom kits, valued at ~$400.

  • Can I get STIPD credit for this workshop?

    Yes, you will be able to register for the GREAT Workshop on STIPD. Registrants will receive that information in the mailed pre-workshop packet.

  • Does GREAT connect to ACOS and AP science standards?

    The following 2015 Alabama Course of Study and AP Science Standards will be addressed for the GREAT Workshop, Standards:

    Biology COS Standards 2, 3b, 11c

    Particular emphasis on Science Practices: Arguing from Evidence, Modeling, and Data Analysis

    AP Biology Big Idea 2 and 3

    LO 3, 4, Science Practices 3 and 5, Essential Knowledge 3.A.4

  • I teach Anatomy and Physiology. Can I attend?

    Yes – several of the concepts and activities presented at the GREAT workshop would be appropriate for A&P classes. However, the content at the current round of GREAT focuses heavily on the new standards for Biology.

  • Will I be compensated for mileage or lodging costs?

    The GREAT Workshop will offer a limited number of $200 travel reimbursements to public, high school life science educators whose schools are beyond the designated radius specific to that workshop location. There is an application process for travel support, and the limited funding will be awarded based on the information provided in the application.   • Will meals be provided?

    Yes, GREAT Workshop participants will receive lunch and snacks throughout the workshop. We hope to keep your stomach happy and your brain engaged!

  • I have special dietary needs. Will there be anything for me to eat?

    Yes, we can accommodate a variety of special dietary needs. Please be sure to include that information in your registration, being as specific as possible.

  • Can I get a schedule for the GREAT Workshop?

    Of course you can! Participants will receive a detailed schedule of the day upon registration and check in. General schedules are included in pre-workshop packets mailed to registrants approximately one week prior to the workshop.

  • I didn't receive a confirmation e-mail. Am I registered?

    All participants should receive a confirmation e-mail from Eventbrite at the time of registration. If you have not received any communication from us prior to the workshop, including the pre-workshop packet in the mail, please check your Spam folder and confirm your e-mail on your registration to make sure it is correct.
