Acclinate Takes A Unique and Effective Approach to Inform the Masses on the Need for Representation in Medicine

Huntsville, Ala. – As Acclinate Genetics expands its efforts to garner diverse participation in clinical and genetic research, it is with high expectations that the company welcomes Tatayana Rice as an intern.

Tatayana Rice is a sophomore at Calhoun Community College majoring in both Political Science and Finance. She is an enthusiast for speech and debate. During the Fall 2019, she worked under Senator Doug Jones, who has committed himself to aiding those in underserved communities by passing acts that ensure they are able to thrive. During that internship, Tatayana tended to constituents, ensuring that those contacting Doug Jones were heard and documented. She was then connected to Tiffany Jordan, Acclinate Director of Strategic Partnerships, through Jose Perry, the Northern Alabama Regional Director for Senator Doug Jones.

“Tatayana Rice is a talented and passionate worker. Her natural gift to welcome each task as her own shows her ability and willingness to relate to those with whom she engages. Congratulations to you both!” says Perry.

Acclinate Genetics is fostering a partnership with Chris Medina, Executive Director of The National HBCU Speech and Debate Association, which aligns with Tatayana’s devotion to the craft of speech and debate. The craft requires competitors to hone skills of critical thinking, communication, creativity, and respect whilst coherently delivering a message. Rice has already expressed enthusiasm for being a community engagement specialist for Acclinate Genetics through this medium, and plans to use her talent on college campuses to inform others of Acclinate’s goal to diversify medicine. Regarding the impact of speech and debate, Medina states:

“Competitive speech and debate is the most powerful pedagogy. It has the power to provide unimaginable career opportunities, but more importantly, it can literally save lives. Partnerships with forward thinking organizations like Acclinate Genetics can provide these opportunities to thousands of underrepresented students.”

Acclinate anticipates mutual growth for Tatayana and the company by granting her the opportunity to utilize her passion for speech and debate and the need for advocacy around diverse representation and clinical research. She will assist the company with its collected data as they strive to create a diverse database of ethnic participants.

“Acclinate Genetics grants me the opportunity to learn more about the Biotech field and a platform to activate people through the art of speech and debate.” said Rice.

As she proceeds, she wishes to transfer to the University of Alabama in the Fall 2020 term. Continuing, she plans to attend law school and practice Anti-Trust and Litigation Law before eventually owning her own law firm.
