The many philanthropists who make the research at HudsonAlpha possible were recoginized at the second annual Genome Circle dinner, Thursday, February 13, at the Jackson Center. The event honors HudsonAlpha donors who contribute $1,000 or more within a calendar year.
Hosting the stewardship event was Carter Wells, HudsonAlpha vice president for economic development. Genome Circle member Shirley McCrary shared with attendees her personal reasons for supporting HudsonAlpha’s mission.
“I am delighted to be a member of the Genome Circle,” said McCrary. “Education is very important to me and I am glad to support Dr. Neil Lamb’s programs, which help students learn about the ever-changing world of science, as well as new and exciting career opportunities. HudsonAlpha is doing such wonderful things in education and research and the institute is truly an asset to our community.”
HudsonAlpha President Rick Myers and Vice President for Educational Outreach Neil Lamb gave mission updates and expressed immense appreciation for everyone’s philanthopic gifts.
Community support is essential to advancing HudsonAlpha’s vision of improving human health and quality of life through genomic research, educational outreach and economic development. Donors say they enjoy being part of the solution.
“It’s about doing well by doing good,” said Genome Circle member Charles Vaughn, Jr. “It is very exciting when discoveries that improve people’s lives in such important ways also contribute to our local economy. It’s also gratifying to play a small part in the continued success of HudsonAlpha.”
