Huntsville, Ala. — Three researchers at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology are amongst the world’s most highly cited researchers, according to a new report on the world’s most influential scientific minds of 2014.
Faculty investigators Jane Grimwood, Ph.D., and Jeremy Schmutz of the HudsonAlpha Genome Sequencing Center are among the most highly cited researchers in the category of plant and animal science. HudsonAlpha faculty investigator Greg Cooper, Ph.D., is most highly cited in the category of molecular biology and genetics.
“Having our fellow researchers from around the world recognize and cite our investigators is truly an honor for HudsonAlpha and a clear assessment of the impact of our work here at HudsonAlpha,” said HudsonAlpha President and Director Rick Myers. “Collaboration is critical at HudsonAlpha, and publishing is one of many ways that our researchers add to the world’s body of knowledge and fuel further discoveries.”

The report, by Thomson Reuters, is based on information from InCites™Essential Science Indicators℠, the world’s leading web-based research analytics platform, and Web of Science™, Thomson Reuters premier web-based platform for scientific and scholarly research.
The top researchers on the list earned the distinction of being the world’s most highly cited researchers by publishing the highest number of articles that rank among those most frequently cited by fellow researchers.
Gordon Macomber, managing director of Thomson Reuters Scientific and Scholarly Research, said citations offer a direct testament to work that scientists themselves judge to be the most important to ongoing research.
“By analyzing these citation connections, one can identify the most impactful people, publications, programs, and more,” Macomber said.
