Candidates to focus on education
This coming February, HudsonAlpha, The Huntsville Times and WHNT News 19 will host a nonpartisan Gubernatorial Candidates’ Forum on the Future of Education.
In order for Alabama to continue competing for knowledge-based, non-exportable jobs, the public education system must turn out well-educated students who want to pursue careers in science and other cutting-edge fields. Candidates will have the opportunity to present ideas for how to move the state forward through Alabama’s educational system.
This 90-minute forum will include questions from panelists representing The Huntsville Times, WHNT News 19 and HudsonAlpha, as well as a student from a Madison County school. These education-related questions will include funding for education in the current economic climate; science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education; the Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative; the future of the PACT program; teacher development; safety and security in Alabama schools; and workforce development.
The forum will be broadcast live on WHNT News 19’s digital channel 19.2, covered by The Huntsville Times and streamed live via WHNT.com and al.com. In addition, other media outlets in the Tennessee Valley and throughout the state will cover the forum.
