“We are pleased to announce the launch of a new awareness-building program here at HudsonAlpha,” said Carter Wells, director of external affairs at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology.  Integral to the program, 18 community leaders have signed on as ambassadors for the institute’s three-fold mission of genomic research, economic development and educational outreach.

The HudsonAlpha Ambassadors include :

Bobby Bradley, Genesis II
Frank Caprio, Bradley Arant Boult Cummings
Joe Collazo, COLSA
Elizabeth Dotts, Public FA
Cindy Gray, Gray Research
Dave Hargrove, AT&T
Dorcas S. Harris, retired executive
Bhavani Kakani, Asha Kiran
Charlie Kettle, First Commercial Bank
Robert Mayes, Blue Creek Investment Partners
Linda Maynor, Maynard Cooper & Gale
Elizabeth Morard, Qualis
Ashok Singhal, CFDRC
Linda Smith, Smith Asset Management
Jean Wessel Templeton, Wesfam
Irma Tuder, Analytical Services Incorporated
Daniel Wilson, Maynard Cooper & Gale
Tom Young, Kord Technologies

Ambassadors will be introduced to different research areas at the institute with the goal of equipping them to discuss the various ways HudsonAlpha benefits our community, state and nation. “It’s very humbling to have such a highly respected group of advocates to help carry our message to the public, offering personal perspectives on the work conducted by HudsonAlpha researchers and educators,” added Wells. Ambassadors will also provide insight and suggestions toward growing the non-profit institute.

The Ambassadors will meet on a quarterly basis with smaller group discussions throughout the year.  The kickoff luncheon for the HudsonAlpha Ambassadors was held earlier this week with Dr. Richard Myers, president and director of HudsonAlpha, as the featured speaker.

About HudsonAlphaHudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology is a nonprofit institute dedicated to innovating in the field of genomic technology and sciences across a spectrum of biological problems. Its mission is three-fold: sparking scientific discoveries that can impact human health and well-being; fostering biotech entrepreneurship; and encouraging the creation of a genomics-literate workforce and society. The HudsonAlpha biotechnology campus consists of 152 acres nestled within Cummings Research Park, the nation’s second largest research park. Designed to be a hothouse of biotech economic development, HudsonAlpha’s state-of-the-art facilities co-locate scientific researchers with entrepreneurs and educators. The relationships formed on the HudsonAlpha campus allow serendipity to yield results in medicine and agriculture. Since opening in 2008, HudsonAlpha, under the leadership of Dr. Richard M. Myers, a key collaborator on the Human Genome Project, has built a name for itself in genetics and genomics research and biotech education, and boasts 26 biotech companies on campus.
