Figuring out Anna Brooke with genetic testing in Alabama

This week, HudsonAlpha celebrated the CSER team diagnosing more than 100 children. HudsonAlpha researchers, collaborators and  media outlets, such as Al.com gathered at the Institute to celebrate this important milestone.

Reporter Lee Roop attended the event and spoke with Dr. Greg Cooper, Dr. Martina Bebin and Miranda Ainsworth, the mother of one of the first patients diagnosed through CSER.

Miranda explained the diagnostic odyssey that finally ended thanks to HudsonAlpha, UAB and Children’s of Alabama.

A long series of tests – even a full genetic screening – led to a series of diagnoses “thrown at us,” she said, including microencephaly, cerebral palsy, even gastrointestinal problems. None was right; all left Ainsworth determined to keep searching.
