BioTrain 2012: A summer of hard work, determination and discovery

BioTrain 2012 officially wrapped up this week, with interns showing off their educational wares during the annual poster session on Tuesday, July 31.

All 34 interns successfully completed the rigorous 8-week program and presented their summer objectives, achievements and overall experiences through the professional-grade posters.

"The diversity of projects and topics represented in this year's poster session was oustanding," said Adam Hott, Ph.D., educational outreach coordinator. "We feel very strongly that this is a skill that our students will use over and over throughout their professional careers."

Hott said the poster presentation is one of the primary formats for presenting new research at national and international scientific conferences. "The quality of posters and projects this year was better than some I have seen at national conferences. I have already encouraged some to consider presenting their research at such venues over the next year."

Students, from high school to graduate level, focused primarily on biotech-releated areas. This year, however, HudsonAlpha expanded its BioTrain opportunities and hosted its first communications intern. Taylor Lioce, a Randolph graduate and rising junior at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, produced a video showcasing BioTrain.
