2015 was a fantastic year for HudsonAlpha! With your support, we made tremendous strides in research, education, and genomic medicine.

“In 2015, your enthusiasm and support for the Institute helped us to launch a new clinical genomics mission, grow our internationally recognized research programs and engage hundreds of thousands of students and teachers in science,” said Rick Myers, PhD, president and science director at HudsonAlpha.

Here are a few highlights from 2015:

  • Opened the Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine, the first clinic in the world designed solely for providing diagnoses to patients with undiagnosed disease using whole genome sequencing
  • Recruited world-renowned genomic scientists and clinicians to Huntsville to support the Smith Family Clinic and HudsonAlpha’s genomic medicine program
  • Expanded our faculty by 33 percent
  • Reached more than 725,000 people with HudsonAlpha educational programs.
  • Opened the Clinical Services Laboratory (CSL) that offers personalized genomic sequencing and analysis for the identification of rare undiagnosed and misdiagnosed disease
  • Hosted the largest Tie the Ribbons event in our history with over 1,300 attendees
  • Launched a program to provide free community-wide genetic breast and ovarian cancer risk testing to all 30-year old women in the cities of Huntsville and Madison, and in Madison County, for one year. This program is the first of its kind in the country
  • Added new associate companies, with 31 companies now calling HudsonAlpha home

The Huntsville Times published a story on December 27 outlining many of HudsonAlpha’s successes in 2015 and providing a look ahead to 2016.

Thank you for your support of HudsonAlpha in 2015! We are looking forward to what we will achieve in the coming months.
