2011 Spring Benefit

Spring Benefit for Research on Psychiatric Disorders

On Thursday, April 28, 2011, HudsonAlpha will host a benefit to raise funds for current and future research focusing on major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Each of these psychiatric conditions impacts individuals and their families everywhere, including North Alabama.

HudsonAlpha researchers are working to identify genetic variants related to these disorders. These variants can one day be used to improve diagnoses and treatments to benefit both those affected and those at risk.  For these conditions, we know that our genomes are not the only factor; therefore, our scientists are also studying the interaction between environmental factors and our genome in both affected and unaffected people.

Please join us April 28 for the Spring Benefit for Research on Psychiatric Disorders. Proceeds will support research into major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Help us fight these devastating disorders by supporting the relevant research underway at HudsonAlpha.

Guests will hear from Misha Angrist, Ph.D., assistant professor at the Duke Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy and author of the book, Here Is a Human Being: At the Dawn of Personal Genomics. Call 256-327-0422 for more information. Please note, seating is limited.

Thanks to our sponsors who have already stepped up to support the 2011 Spring Benefit for Research on Psychiatric Disorders.

About the speaker

Photo of Dr. Misha Angrist Misha Angrist, Ph.D., is a former genetics counselor-turned Duke University faculty member and author who chronicled his experience as a subject in the Personal Genome Project. Angrist believes that our children’s health care will eventually involve routine genome scans. He also wonders how their genomes will alter the landscape of their social lives.
